DOOM SPORTS / WOMEN’S FIT RESEARCH

ONE SIZE DOESN’T FIT
EVERY FIGHTER.

Women’s boxing equipment should begin with women’s hand data—not a men’s glove reduced by one size and relabelled. Our fit work starts with measurable differences in length, breadth, proportion and wrist geometry.

THE RESEARCH GAP

FIT IS A GEOMETRY PROBLEM.

Peer-reviewed research reports that adult male hands are typically 5–10% longer and 10–15% wider than adult female hands. Shape differences are also statistically significant in adults. Those are population-level findings, not a label for every individual—but they are too important for responsible product development to ignore.

A glove can have the right ounce weight and still feel wrong in the hand chamber, finger position or wrist closure. That is why we separate protection category from anatomical fit.

WHAT WE MEASURE

MORE THAN OUNCES.

01

HAND BREADTH

Width across the hand affects chamber volume and how securely the glove sits.

02

HAND LENGTH

Length influences finger position, grip-bar reach and where the knuckles meet the padding.

03

PALM PROPORTION

Two hands of similar length can still require different internal geometry.

04

WRIST GEOMETRY

The closure must work with the athlete’s wrist rather than using excess bulk to feel secure.

FIT CHECK

CHOOSE BY USE. VERIFY BY FEEL.

01 — Fingertips: Reach the end of the finger compartment without folding.

02 — Knuckles: Sit behind the intended padding zone.

03 — Wrist: Feel supported without numbness, pinching or a large empty gap.

04 — Ounce weight: Relates to use and protection; it does not guarantee anatomical fit.

05 — Rules: Follow your coach, gym and competition requirements for sparring and competition weight.

ATHLETE DISCOVERY / JANUARY 2026

LISTEN FIRST. TEST NEXT.

DOOM’s initial discovery work included informal direct-message conversations with eight female combat athletes and coaches. Their feedback helps us choose what to investigate—not claim that every woman needs the same glove.

01 / CLOSURE RANGE

SECURITY WITHOUT OVERLAP

Some participants described wrist looseness, strap overlap or a preference for a tighter closure. Others reported a secure fit with their usual wraps.

02 / CUFF GEOMETRY

HEIGHT MATTERS TOO

One participant identified a cuff extending too far up the forearm as a bigger issue than wrist looseness. Cuff height deserves its own fit check.

03 / INDIVIDUAL FIT

NO SINGLE EXPERIENCE

Feedback varied with brand, hand and wrist size, wraps, activity and glove weight. Reports of no fit problem are part of the evidence too.

Limitations: eight-person convenience sample; self-reported experiences; leading wrist-fit questions; mixed boxing and MMA activities and 8–16 oz gloves; no controlled impact or injury-outcome testing. We publish no participant identities or private messages. These conversations cannot establish prevalence, causation or injury prevention.

HELP SHAPE THE NEXT ITERATION

YOUR FIT. YOUR FEEDBACK.

Female boxers, combat athletes and coaches can contact DOOM to express interest in future fit research. This is an interest invitation, not a promise of a product, trial place or free equipment.

Tell us your discipline, usual glove brand and ounce weight, training use, wrap length and the fit issue—or absence of one—you notice. Please do not send medical records or private conversations.

For future structured testing we plan to record hand length, hand breadth, wrist circumference and cuff clearance using a consistent measurement protocol. Any measurements will be requested separately with a clear purpose and consent.

Fit guidance is general information. Stop using equipment that causes pain, numbness or loss of circulation and consult a qualified coach or clinician when appropriate.
