This MMA gloves buying guide starts with the activity your coach has planned. MMA glove formats differ from boxing gloves, and the intended session matters more than a generic “standard” label.
Confirm the glove format
Ask your coach which gloves are required for the session and whether you will be working on striking, grappling or a combination. Do not substitute an open-finger MMA glove for boxing sparring gloves without the session leader’s direction.
The current DOOM range includes K-1 GRAPPLE (Open Palm), K-1 GRAPPLE (Premium) and K-1 STRIKE-MMA. Compare the listed material, palm format, weight where specified and closure on the individual product pages.
Check the hand openings and closure
Use the wraps your coach recommends for that glove format. Check finger openings, the palm, thumb position and the way the cuff closes. You should be able to use the intended grip without forcing your hand into a position or tightening the closure excessively.
“Standard” is not a verified circumference range. Ask for measurements if the listing does not state them. A size chart from another brand is not proof of the internal fit of a DOOM model.
Compare the specification, then the availability
- Match the glove format to the session.
- Check listed synthetic or leather construction.
- Check closure and whether you can fasten it reliably.
- Inspect the current stock or back-order message.
- Ask about dispatch timing for a time-sensitive order.

Research is context, not a fit guarantee
Some early athlete feedback collected by DOOM spans boxing and MMA. The sample is informal and mixed; it does not establish a universal MMA glove size or prove injury outcomes. Read the limitations in the Lab before drawing conclusions.
Sources and scope
Product details are from the current DOOM catalogue. Everlast’s size charts illustrate why formats and manufacturer-specific sizing need checking; they are not DOOM measurements. Ask your coach about session requirements and the event organiser about competition rules.
